Public Consultation

We are committed to engaging openly and honestly while preparing the Tonn Nua planning application. At present there is no public consultation process open for the project. However, if you wish to engage directly with the project team, please feel free to contact us at info@tonnnua.ie.

Maritime Consent Process

In order to prepare for planning, the following applications have been made to the Maritime Area Regulatory Authority (MARA) and where appropriate have been subject to public consultation.

Maritime Area Consent (MAC)

In line with the ORESS Tonn Nua auction terms and conditions, the Tonn Nua project was required to submit its MAC application to MARA within five days of final auction results. The Tonn Nua MAC application was submitted to MARA on 12th December 2025.

The MAC was determined by MARA on the 26th of March 2026. This sets out the boundary of the project and the conditions for operating within it for the period of the lease. It also gives the Tonn Nua Project the ability to proceed with its planning application.

Maritime Usage License (MUL)

The grant of an MUL will convey the right to undertake preliminary survey works and site investigation studies for the Tonn Nua project. Before carrying out any surveys for such marine operations, the project developers must apply for a MUL in respect of the MAC area. The MUL was subject to public consultation by MARA.
